Monsters star Cooper Koch has finally addressed the buzz about that infamous prison shower scene – yes, you know the one. The actor, who plays Erik Menendez in the hit Netflix series, opened up about the steamy shower moment and his off-screen love life.
Netflix’s latest true-crime sensation, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, has been captivating audiences since its September premiere.
The second installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series, this season focuses on the infamous 1989 murders of José and Kitty Menendez by their sons, Lyle and Erik.
With a star-studded cast including Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as the ill-fated parents, the series has garnered attention for presenting multiple perspectives with the brothers’ viewpoint as the central narrative.
But it’s not just the gripping storyline that’s got everyone talking – a certain prison shower scene has set screens (and social media) ablaze.
Cooper Koch, who portrays Erik Menendez, stopped by Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week to dish on the show – and that headline-making full-frontal moment.
When asked about the scariest aspect of baring it all on camera, Koch’s response was refreshingly candid.
“You know, it’s not scary,” he admitted. “I would say it’s like just more uncomfortable at first. It’s very cold.”
Host Andy Cohen couldn’t resist probing further about the infamous shower scene. “Was the water warm at least?” he asked. Koch, ever the good sport, replied with a grin, “It was warm in the beginning.”
But the most, ahem, controversial part of that shower scene was when Cooper bared it all – and the internet was swirling with discussions as to whether we’re seeing the real thing or not.
So, Cooper has finally put these discussions to rest with a cheeky admission in another part of the interview: “Just to say, mine is NOT a prosthetic.”
Andy, never one to miss a beat, responded with a playful, “Congratulations, Cooper! You are very blessed.” Koch, clearly in on the joke, fired back, “Well… hung.” Talk about owning your assets!
But it wasn’t all steamy shower talk. Koch also opened up about the challenges of portraying Erik Menendez in this controversial series.
When asked about the most intimidating aspect of meeting the real-life Menendez brothers, Koch revealed it was “more nerve-wracking” than scary.
“I’ve known about them for so long, and I care so much about them,” he explained, highlighting his dedication to portraying Erik with authenticity and respect.
The actor also touched on the series’ most demanding scenes. “Episode five was probably the most intense,” Koch shared, referring to a grueling solo performance featuring 34 pages of dialogue shot in one continuous take.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances but criticized the show’s inconsistent tone and controversial portrayal of the brothers’ relationship, Monsters has been a global success.
It debuted as Netflix’s number-one series worldwide, proving that audiences can’t get enough of true crime stories.
And for those wondering about Koch’s off-screen love life? Sorry, fellas – he confirmed he’s currently off the market with a boyfriend.
