Troye Sivan’s Lap Dance For A Lucky Fan Came With A Warning About His Mom

There was one chair in the middle of the stage, and one very lucky guy sitting in it.

Troye Sivan had pulled him out of the crowd at Apple’s new London venue on Tuesday night, partway through One of Your Girls. That’s the song whose music video has Troye in a blonde wig and heels, giving a shirtless Ross Lynch a lap dance on a chair.

Now a fan in a striped shirt was getting the live version, in a room of just 600 people, with the whole show streaming live around the world.

Troye walked up behind him, shirt unbuttoned almost to the waist, and leaned in.

Then he stopped. Before anything else happened, he had a question for the guy, and a warning about his mom.

The Song Ross Lynch Made Famous

One of Your Girls came out in October 2023 as a single from Troye’s album Something to Give Each Other. He wrote it about men who thought of themselves as straight but wanted to experiment, and about how empty he felt afterward.

The video put that fantasy on screen. Troye performed in drag for the first time, in lingerie and a long blonde wig, and danced all over Ross, who spends most of the video shirtless in ripped jeans, sitting on a chair. Troye’s explanation for casting him was simple: everyone’s obsessed with Ross. The video has now passed 62 million views on YouTube.

When Troye played London’s Wembley Arena in June 2024, Ross showed up and recreated the scene live.

So when TikTok user ire_b05 posted Tuesday’s clip, the caption was obvious: “@ross_lynch you were replaced.”

A Tiny Room, With The Whole World Watching

Apple Music Hall is Apple’s first-ever live venue, built inside Battersea Power Station. It opened on September 28 with Elton John, and it holds just 600 people.

Every show there is a one-off, and every one is livestreamed around the world. Troye’s was one of only eight shows booked through December, a lineup that ends with his friend Charli xcx on December 2.

Which is where the mom comes in.

First, A Consent Check And A Warning

According to Rolling Stone UK’s review, Troye paused before the routine to check that the fan was comfortable being touched. Then he reminded him that the show was being livestreamed, and that his mom might be watching.

Apparently the fan was fine with that, because the dance went ahead.

He sat down on the guy’s lap, got back up and eventually dropped to his knees in front of him, singing the whole time. The fan mostly sat there grinning and trying to stay cool, which, honestly, respect.

Watch it for yourself:

Then, Just Like That, He Was Gone

The ending was the funniest bit. Rolling Stone UK says the fan sat there patiently “being Troye’d” for a while, and then he was hustled off the stage so fast he barely had time to enjoy it.

Meanwhile, the rest of the room was belting the song’s chorus back at Troye like a football chant.

Online, the clip took off. A repost from the X account Concert Leaks had passed 930,000 views and 9,500 likes by Thursday, and a TikTok repost from the music page Notion summed up the mood: “Jealousy at the max.” We don’t know who the fan is, but nearly a million people now know exactly where he was sitting on Tuesday night.

It’s even funnier next to what Troye told Zane Lowe in an Apple Music interview last month. He said he became single just as his career was blowing up, and realizing that a lot of the people who listen to his music are also in his dating pool “freaked me out.” So he locked himself down for a while.

On Tuesday he picked one of those people out of the crowd and sat on his lap. We’d call that progress.

The Rest Of The Night: Denim, An Ex And That Party Choreography

Troye made his entrance as a silhouette in denim, walking down through the back rows instead of appearing on stage. He opened with Troye Meets World, greeted the room with a cheerfully profane hello, and spent the song bending down to flirt with the front rows.

By Le Boy, the denim jacket had been thrown into the crowd and his hands were moving up his own torso.

The set leaned heavily on She’s the Best, his fourth album, which came out just four days earlier. Fans filmed him singing FF and Embarrassingly, and fan account @infotroye reported that he told the crowd he wrote Embarrassingly about his ex, model and photographer Jacob Bixenman. The two dated from 2016 until early 2020.

He’s been unusually open about his exes lately. In the Zane Lowe interview he didn’t name names, but he called one ex-boyfriend the great love of his life so far, said the two of them still share dogs, and revealed that the same ex photographed him for this album.

The night’s high point, per Rolling Stone UK, was Party, the single that samples Madonna’s Music. His dancers wove through each other in interlocking lines, echoing the song’s music video. Then Troye slid straight out of it and into his 2023 hit Rush, with no break at all:

Missed It? There’s A Replay

It’s been a very Troye few weeks. Last month he got doused by Sam Nivola in a steam room for New York magazine, and now this.

The whole performance is available to replay on Apple Music, lap dance included.

Something tells us the fan’s mom has already watched it.
