‘Red, White & Royal Blue 2’ Drops Behind-the-Scenes Teaser

By Oliver Green

If there’s one thing that can make a Monday feel like Christmas morning, it’s Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine confirming that Red, White & Royal Wedding is officially in production.

The two heartthrobs just dropped a behind-the-scenes teaser video that has fans (us included) absolutely losing their minds – complete with shirtless scenes, playful banter, and a hilarious joke about whose wedding we’re actually attending.

And honestly? We can’t blame anyone for freaking out.

A Love Story That Captured Hearts Worldwide

If you somehow missed the phenomenon that was Red, White & Royal Blue when it premiered on Prime Video in August 2023, allow us to catch you up on what became one of the streaming platform’s biggest hits.

Red white and royal blue

Based on Casey McQuiston‘s beloved 2019 novel, the film follows Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor), the charismatic son of America’s first female president, and Prince Henry (Nicholas), a closeted British royal who’s third in line to the throne.

What starts as a very public feud – complete with a disastrous wedding cake incident that goes viral – gets smoothed over with a staged friendship for the cameras.

But here’s the thing about forcing two gorgeous, emotionally complicated men to spend time together: sometimes that fake friendship sparks something very, very real.

The enemies-to-lovers romance that unfolds is everything you want in a modern fairy tale. There’s witty banter, stolen glances, secret rendezvous, steamy encounters (including a museum scene that lives rent-free in fans’ minds), and the kind of emotional vulnerability that makes you ugly cry in the best way possible.

Matthew López directed the film in his feature debut, creating something that felt both sweeping and intimate. The chemistry between Taylor and Nicholas was electric – the kind that makes you forget you’re watching actors and instead feel like you’re witnessing an actual love story unfold.

The film was a massive success, becoming the top-watched movie on Prime Video for three consecutive weeks and driving what the platform described as “a huge surge” of new subscribers.

The supporting cast was stellar, with Uma Thurman bringing gravitas and warmth as President Ellen Claremont, Sarah Shahi as her sharp-tongued chief of staff, and Stephen Fry as the King.

The sequel was officially greenlit in October 2025 with the title Red, White & Royal Wedding, confirming that our favorite couple is headed down the aisle.

Jamie Babbit – the legendary director behind But I’m a Cheerleader and acclaimed work on Only Murders in the Building – has stepped in to direct, with Casey McQuiston co-writing the screenplay alongside Matthew López and Gemma Burgess.

FirstPrince Is Back (And Looking Better Than Ever)

On January 19, Prime Video’s official Red, White & Royal Blue social media accounts posted the video that immediately sent the internet into a frenzy.

The clip opens with Nicholas and Taylor greeting fans with matching grins and an energy that screams “we missed you too.”

“Hey, guys!” Nicholas says, while Taylor adds a casual, “What’s up?!”

The video then delivers exactly what fans have been craving: glimpses of what’s happening on set in London. And let us tell you, the footage does not disappoint.

Red White and Royal Blue 2 behind the scenes

We get a peek at Taylor filming a shirtless scene while lying in bed (because of course we do), Nicholas making his costar crack up between takes, and even an embroidered director’s chair featuring the Red, White & Royal Wedding title artwork.

But the best part? The playful banter between these two is already in full swing.

“Welcome back!” Nicholas says with that signature princely charm.

Then Taylor jumps in with perfectly timed comedic delivery: “Oh, I did want to say that we are here for Bea’s wedding.”

“Yeah, we just wanted to clarify, you know?” Nicholas adds, playing along beautifully.

Taylor continues: “We’re not…”

“…Don’t get confused,” Nicholas interjects.

“…We’re not getting married,” Taylor insists.

“…That’s a long ways off at this point,” Nicholas teases, letting that last line hang in the air with all the implications it carries.

And just like that, the FirstPrince fandom collectively combusted.

What to Expect From the Wedding

Plot details remain tightly under wraps, but given the title and Casey McQuiston’s bonus chapter (which shows Alex and Henry engaged and living in a Brooklyn brownstone years later), it’s safe to assume we’re building toward the couple’s wedding.

The question is: what obstacles will they face along the way?

Taylor teased in November 2025 that he’d read the script and called it “really good,” though he quickly added that he couldn’t share details: “They will come for me. Amazon will find me.”

Sarah Shahi confirmed she’s returning as Zahra Bankston, the president’s sharp-tongued chief of staff.

Prime Video hasn’t confirmed whether Uma Thurman, Rachel Hilson (Alex’s sister June), Ellie Bamber (Henry’s sister Bea), or Clifton Collins Jr. will reprise their roles – though the guys joking about attending “Bea’s wedding” suggests at least some familiar faces are coming back.

The Stakes Are Higher This Time

Here’s what has us particularly excited: the landscape for queer romance has shifted dramatically since 2023. The recent success of Crave’s Heated Rivalry – which depicts the passionate relationship between two professional hockey players with a level of intimacy that’s been praised by critics and fans alike – has proven that audiences are ready for queer romance that doesn’t hold back.

Heated Rivalry has been lauded for its authentic depiction of gay intimacy, with very explicit, steamy scenes that feel genuine and emotionally resonant.

Heated Rivalry

The show has become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring real hockey players to come out and demonstrating that there’s a massive appetite for LGBTQ+ stories told with honesty and heat.

With Jamie Babbit at the helm – a director known for centering queer joy while never shying away from the realities of queer relationships – and the success of shows like Heated Rivalry proving what audiences want, there’s real hope that Red, White & Royal Wedding might push boundaries even further than its predecessor.

“After directing But I’m a Cheerleader in my twenties, I’m thrilled to be back in the queer love universe of Red, White & Royal Wedding,” Babbit said in a statement. “We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy, and gay joy.”

And based on that teaser video – with Taylor already shirtless and the chemistry between these two still crackling – it looks like we’re in for exactly that kind of joy.
